Advocacy
Why We Advocate
Advocacy is woven into the fabric of Harmony House. Inspired by the work of leading organizations like the National Council on Aging, we believe that everyone should have the resources to age well. We work with national and local partners to ensure older adults and their caregivers are represented in public and social policy decisions.
Our Policy Team monitors legislation at all levels of government and champions reforms that protect and strengthen programs like the Older Americans Act. We strive to make sure that program cuts are not made at the expense of older adults and that funding for key services is preserved and expanded.

Public & Social Policy
Aging well requires coordinated action across a range of issues. We advocate for:
- Economic Security: Protecting pensions, benefits and programs that support financial stability for older adults.
- Elder Justice: Safeguarding seniors from abuse, neglect and exploitation, and ensuring access to legal resources.
- Health & Long‑Term Care: Expanding access to high‑quality healthcare, home‑ and community‑based services, and long‑term care options.
- Medicare & Medicaid: Advocating for improvements to Medicare, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid that enhance coverage and protect low‑income beneficiaries.
- Equity & Inclusion: Addressing disparities that affect women, people of color and rural seniors, and promoting inclusive communities.

Our Impact
We leverage research, storytelling and direct engagement with lawmakers to influence policy. Our advocates testify before committees, submit comments on proposed regulations, and mobilize grassroots supporters. By working with partners like Argentum, we support increased investments in workforce development and push for laws that increase access and affordability of assisted living.
